Volunteers protecting rural communities

They come from all backgrounds and all industries. They’re young, old, male, female, adrenaline junkies and service-minded alike. They’re your neighbors who volunteer as rural fire fighters and first responders. And they know that when you call them, it’s probably not to share good news.

Standing inside the fire

This past summer saw some of the worst conditions possible for wildfires, and volunteer rural firefighters responded to the call across the Plains. The Coyle Fire Department and the neighboring Meridian Fire Department, also in Logan County, are your typical rural fire departments.
